Trumpeter Larry ("Section") Sims has been an active member of the Sounds of Blackness for thirty years.

Detroit born and raised, Larry's musical career began under the tutelage of the Motown writer and producer Barrett Strong and renowned trumpeter Marcus Belgrave.  Signed by Clarence Avant, Larry was an original member of Brainstorm.  The Band enjoyed 4 years of being on the charts with disco hits including "Loving is Really My Game" and the soulful ballad "This Must Be Heaven".  Migrating to Minneapolis in 1980, Larry says "I went from Motown to Funkytown!"  Playing in the Twin Cities scene has put him in a plethora of musical ensembles including orchestral, R&B, jazz, Latin, Dixieland and reggae.  Larry also participated as a bugler for the Milwaukee based Civil War Reenactment (29th Infantry Colored Troop).
